If you had the opportunity to watch the opening ceremonies of the Olympic games, you may have found our country's athletes dolled up in Ralph Lauren. Yes, Ralph Lauren apparently "represents" our country, according to the fashion industry and obviously the olympic committees. Could we possibly present a more pretentious view of American culture? Hardly!! David Lauren, Ralph Lauren VP of advertising, marketing, and corporate communications declared..."stylish enough to elevate us as a country". Elevate us??!! My goodness...the messages we send.

Something tells me they bought the rights as everything is for sell in America. lol ;)
Yep! No one cares about our new image as "policemen of the world", but they do care about "our" fashion sense! lol! Wow! Has it really come to this?
Yes, it is exactly what it is. Just looking at the comments from some of the USA Today members shows the mindset of most Americans. Some fun examples:
"Very dapper! I love RL and the USA!!"
Perfect symbolism by putting together that she loves "RL" and "the USA" in the same sentence. For many Americans, "USA" is nothing more than a corporate brand anyway.
"I was really proud when i saw our athletes all dressed up. 'Classy' is the perfect word. Who cares if people thought we looked stuffy or unapproachable or wealthy- we looked good. China's athletes looked good as well and we all know they're not rich!"
"Who cares if people thought we looked stuffy or unapproachable or wealthy" ... LOL need I say more?
"Love em...but then I have a whole closet full of RL clothes, so I am probably biased."
Uhhh ... I think this person needs to update their taste in clothing. :)
"This is probably the best designer to present an atmosphere of 'we're better than you'. Just what the USA needs."
Couldn't have said it better myself.
