This is being worked around in a major way. I work in the oil and gas industry. I now have not only a passport but a TWIC card now as well, http://www.tsa.gov/what_we_do/... . I can't say I am real happy with this development. It is embedded with all my information and fingerprints. It all fits neatly on a chip on the card along with my photo. It would not surprise me to find it has a RFID tracking ability as well. All this and at a cost of 132.50 (hidden tax, don't be fooled, it is a tax) too. Just so I can work in the Gulf of Mexico. The government is finding ways to make everyone carry some kind of federal ID in industry at a time. It is only a matter of time at this rate.
